Yao is a mischievous little girl who loves playing with her dad. But every morning Daddy has to dress up in his suit, pick up his briefcase and go to work. One day, Yao, unhappy with her father’s departure, grabs his overcoat and accidentally pulls a thread that leads to the start of a magical world of adventure and discovery.

Join Yao on her ingenious journey to find out what’s waiting for her at the end of the thread… YAO YAO is a playful blend of reality and imagination, using interactive screen art technology and live music.

YAO YAO was jury-selected and performed a full showcase at the International Performing Arts for Youth (IPAY) conference in Philadelphia in January 2018.  It will perform at the Theatre for Young Audiences TYA/USA National Festival and Conference May 9-12, 2019  at the Alliance Theatre in Atlanta, Georgia.

Critical Acclaim

Critical Acclaim

“It's an expertly choreographed piece...in which the broadly drawn projections, live action and piano music come together to create a magical and mysterious world where nothing is what it seems. But it also celebrates the power of young people's imagination...“

—The Scotsman

Edinburgh Fringe Festival 2015 review

“ A touching, funny and highly imaginative show which entertains everyone, young and not-so young.”

—The List

Edinburgh Fringe Festival 2015 review

“ The use of clown, props,  and puppetry techniques give this show a feeling of old time circus but with a contemporary edge of interactive technology and the stream of consciousness continuation of actions seems appropriate to the shorter attention span of younger children.... [A] joyous sense of play inspired by the very imaginative mind of little [Yao]"
