About the Company
Resources
When Shasta’s father loses his job, she is devastated to learn that plans for her upcoming birthday party must be significantly downsized. As the story progresses, Shasta and Simon meet a mysterious Traveler who gives them a seed that will make a tree grow leaves of money. Through a truly magical journey, the two ultimately learn that being a loyal friend is worth more than a big party or having all the latest toys. In the end, our friends, family and imaginations are truly our greatest assets.
This production introduces elementary audiences to beginning notions related to financial literacy, explores the idea of ‘needs vs. wants,’ and affirms the power of imagination and creativity.

Critical Acclaim
It was a great performance. It touched upon many aspects of day-to-day things that are happening with our students that we sometimes don’t realize.
—J. Konstantopoulos,
Teacher
The Money Tree really helped our students learn more about value, and promoted discussions around different types of bullying, being an upstander and standing up.
—Carrie Cox,
Teacher – TDSB
As in many communities in Ontario, we have a diverse student population, some of whose parents struggle financially. This production was able to shed light on the importance of maintaining healthy friendship with others who may not have the ability to purchase items that many students think are a necessity.
—E. Nyman,
Principal
Roseneath Theatre’s 2014 production of The Money Tree received Dora Mavor Moore Award nominations for
Outstanding New Play and Outstanding Performance by an ensemble.
