The Neverending Story

The Neverending Story is a thrilling epic adventure, in the spirit of The Lord of the Rings, which reveals— and revels in—the glory and wonder of imagination. A young boy named Bastian seeks refuge from reality in the pages of a strange book. Hiding in the attic of his school, he begins to read and, unbeknownst to him, the story is enacted below. Fantastica, a land of stories, is in danger; The Nothing threatens to engulf everything in its path. The Childlike Empress chooses an unlikely hero, Atreyu, a boy Bastian's age, to go on a quest to save their world. Atreyu's adventure takes him through the Swamps of Sadness, to Morla the Turtle, Ygramul, the Many, and the maze of the Southern Oracle. He loses his horse Artax, but gains the friendship of Falkor the Luck Dragon. Finally, he must face the werewolf Gmork, bent on the destruction, not only of Fantastica, but of imagination itself.

Ultimately, Atreyu can not defend the world alone. In a thrilling climatic moment, Bastian discovers that he holds the key to the story's true happy ending.

Based on Michael Ende's classic German novel, David S. Craig's stage adaptation is a magical exploration of character and creativity. Children of all ages will delight at Bastian's story as told by Craig and his team of artists, including the multi-talented Lori Hickling (costumes), and award-winners Glenn Davidson (set / lighting design) and Rick Sacks (sound designer / composer). Premiering in Spring 2012, Roseneath's production is sure to awaken the wonder of imagination.
